Tech: The Third Wheel in the Doctor-Patient Relationship

A decade ago, physicians were struggling to cope when their patients came in armed with reams of Google printouts that might explain their symptoms. Today, that same patient is often generating personal data through the use of apps and wearable devices. As more and more patients rely on a host of new technologies and services, rather than a traditional doctor’s office visit, the medical profession is re-examining the traditional doctor/patient relationship, making room for the third wheel -- tech. In the November issue of i3 Magazine, we look at the new voices examining the digital health transformation. This leads up to our 10th year celebration of the Digital Health Summit at CES.

Friend of the show Abigail Posner, Head of Strategy at Google, receives the leadership award for Social Impact Award at the United Nations. We’re so proud to know and work with her.

We’re also kinda geeking out on biohacking. Biohacking is the art and science of optimizing your performance and wellbeing with biological & technological tools. Friend of LIDT, Sanjeev Goel, is hosting the first of its kind conference in North America. The conference looks at everything from plant medicines, low carb/keto diets, psychedelics, cannabis, nootropics and neurobiofeedback. Get supercharged at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre to learn all things biohacking on October 14-16. For details, visit www.SparkBioHack.ca

So will we have tech at CES this year? You betcha. But it’s going to come with a lot of discussion about how to write the instruction manual for the next 25 years.
